Ben Carson calls transgender military members a distraction |
At an event in Waterloo, Iowa, Ben Carson told veterans that the military is "not the place to deal with the transgender thing". He states that he prefers the "don't ask, don't tell" military policy. Currently, there are around 15,000 transgender people who serve in the military but hide their gender identities because it is banned to serve in the military if you are trans. Carson is a firm believer in a strong military, and is concerned with the possibility of allowing transgender people to serve in the military. He states that "the military has a very important job, their job is to protect us. The last thing they need are a bunch of distractions".
